Why The Second Order

Most organizations do not struggle because they lack tools, data, or talented people.

They struggle because the underlying systems of the business were never designed to work together.

The Second Order exists to solve that problem.

We help founders and leadership teams bring clarity to how their business actually operates by aligning systems, workflows, metrics, and decision making into a structure leaders can trust.

The result is a business that is easier to understand, easier to manage, and better positioned to scale.

The Experience Behind the Work

The Second Order was founded by Liz Perkins after years of working inside fast growing organizations where complexity quietly outpaced clarity.

Liz became known for stepping into messy operational environments and bringing structure to them. Her work focused on designing the infrastructure behind the business including data architecture, reporting systems, operational workflows, and leadership decision frameworks.

While serving in leadership roles within a high growth recruiting firm, Liz built the company’s data architecture and reporting infrastructure, helping transform fragmented information into clear decision systems.

Her work consistently centered around one idea: businesses function best when their systems, decisions, and workflows operate in harmony.

Why It’s Called The Second Order

The name comes from systems thinking.

First order solutions address surface level problems.

Second order thinking examines how the underlying system actually functions.

Instead of adding more tools, reports, or dashboards, The Second Order focuses on designing the systems beneath the business so leaders can see clearly and operate with confidence.

I believe great businesses are built when clarity exists beneath the surface.
